Service, Knowledge, and Satisfaction with a Smile.

Here at Bloomingdale Optical our Motto is: Service, Knowledge, and Satisfaction with a Smile. We make a point to remember this everyday as we help not only new patients, but continue to keep existing patients satisfied.

Dr. Peter Epstein and Dee Gustaveson started the business together in 1993. Their goal was to do more than most optical businesses. Giving a better optical experience and provide outstanding personal service, as well as better frame selection was a must. The doors at Bloomingdale Optical first opened on July 12, 1993. Originally, the store was originally located in Springbrook Shopping Center on Lake Street, and was known as Springbrook Optical. After four years, the business blossomed and we outgrew that location. In 1997 we moved to the existing location on Bloomingdale Road, where the business name was changed to Bloomingdale Optical.

We pride our staff on their ability to care for patients and their needs. Besides being able to pick from over 900 frames, our staff is knowledgeable on the most up-to-date technology in every aspect of optics. Here at Bloomingdale Optical, not only do we choose the best frame, we strive to match that frame with the perfect lens choice for each patient's individual needs. Our goal is to constantly provide our customers with the most current styles and professional service.

In the year 2000 we expanded our doctor staff with the addition of Dr. Cathy Hersh. She is extremely knowledgeable in contacts, specializing in keratoconic lens patients. She goes above and beyond the routine eye exam, with extreme thoroughness.

We expanded our family once again in 2006 with Dr. Martha McAllister, who has since been doing an outstanding job. She is extremely thorough on her eye exams. Dr. McAllister previously worked in Glen Ellyn. Many of her patients followed her to our practice, adding to our continuously growing patient base.

Who is Who?
Optometrist
Doctors of optometry (ODs) are the primary health care professionals for the eye. Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions affecting the eye. After determining whether a patient is nearsighted, farsighted, has an astigmatism, or presbyopia, an optometrist can prescribe glasses and/or contact lenses.
Optician
Opticians are eye care professionals who work directly under the optometrist. Once a doctor has given his recommendations, the optician will work with the patient to find the best frames, lenses, or contacts to meet their needs. An optician is also in charge of the pre-test process, important for taking pressures and measurements that the optometrist uses to dertermine prescriptions.
