LENSES

Single Vision
Single vision lenses are prescribed for one field of vision. Single vision lenses have the same prescription strength throughout the whole lens and can either be used for correcting distance or near vision.

Bifocal
A bifocal lens is used for distance and near vision. The upper portion of the lens will convey the distance prescription, while a lower window conveys the reading portion.

Trifocal
Trifocal is used for distance and near vision, but it also has an intermediate portion, used for computer work, or anything else done at an arm’s length.

Progressive
Progressive lenses are the most functional of the lenses. Progressive lenses convey continuous vision without the use of traditional windows. This lens offers a smooth transition from distance, to intermediate, to near, without any visual jumps or tell-tale lines.

LENS OPTIONS

Plastic/CR-39
Plastic is the most basic lens option. Plastic lenses are lighter than glass, providing more comfortable wear. The plastic lens material is a good option for minor prescriptions and contact lens wearers, who rarely use their glasses, but its usage is dropping since it does not offer a thin profile.

Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate lenses are thinner and lighter than traditional plastic lenses. They also offer 100 percent ultraviolet (UV) protection and are up to 10 times more shatter and impact-resistant than regular plastic lenses. This combination of lightweight comfort, UV protection and impact resistance makes polycarbonate lenses an excellent choice for children's glasses, sports eyewear, and safety glasses. It is also the ideal choice for a rimless or a drill mount frame.

High Index
A high index lens is made of a plastic material that is thinner than polycarbonate, and provides better vision for patients with higher prescriptions and astigmatism corrections. The high index lens hides some of the thickness of the lens, helping to conceal the “coke bottle” effect. High index lenses offer extreme flatness for both optical and cosmetic performance. There are many levels of high index lenses, depending on the strength of the prescription, ranging from index 1.60 to 1.74, the newest, thinnest lens technology available.

LENS TREATMENTS

Lens treatments enhance your eyewear with optional choices that meet different needs and lifestyles.

Ultraviolet Coating
Protecting your eyes from ultraviolet light is very important. Just as we use sunscreen to keep the sun's UV rays from harming our skin, UV treatment in eyeglass lenses block the same rays from damaging our eyes. UV protection can help prevent cataracts, cancer of the skin around the eyes, and long-term eye damage, such as macular degeneration of the retina.

Scratch Coating
No lens material is scratch proof; but we do offer a scratch resistant coating to reduce some of the scratches. Since a scratch-resistant coating can't completely protect your lenses from wear and tear, make sure to keep your glasses in a cushioned case, and clean them with a microfiber cloth and cleaning solution. Do not clean your glasses without wetting them first, and never use paper products.

Anti-reflective coating
An anti-reflective coating is a lens option that can help the wearer in regards to clearer, sharper vision, enhanced cosmetics, and better night vision. Anti-reflective coating can also help eliminate reflections that cause eyestrain and fatigue, especially from fluorescent lighting and computer screens. We offer the best anti reflective coating in the industry, called Crizal Alize, which comes with a two year warranty.

Photochromic
A photochromic lens is one that has the ability to lighten and darken in conjunction with the availability of ultraviolet light. The photochromic lens is more of a comfort lens, not a substitute for sunglasses. Direct sunlight and UV rays trigger the photocromic lens to get dark, so they will not change in the car, since all windshields come with a UV blocker.

Tints
As opposed to the changeable photochromic lens option, another is a colored tint, which remains constant at all times. Tints are available on plastic as well as glass lenses and are available in almost any color of the rainbow. Lighter tints are used primarily for cosmetic purposes to enhance a wearer's looks. Darker tints allow the wearer to use the lenses as sunglasses.

Polarized
Polarized lenses help reduce glare with special polarized filters. They also offer 100% UV protection while increasing visual clarity and depth perception. While a sunglass tint reduces light entering the eye, a polarized lens reduces light while filtering out unwanted glare, which can be noticeable near snow or water. Polarized lenses remove visual distractions and allow you to see the world around you much better.
