EXAMS

An eye examination is a series of tests performed by an optometrist, assessing vision and ability to focus on and discern objects, as well as other tests and examinations pertaining to the eyes. Here at Bloomingdale Optical we offer a thorough eye exam to each of our patients.

A routine eye exam will include some preliminary testing done by an optician before seeing the doctor. Patient’s case history is gathered, followed by a periphal vision test, the collecting of intraocular pressures and a color vision test. Once the pretest is completed and all the information has been compiled, the doctor is ready to do the examination. The examination will include:

  • Refraction, the test in which the doctor determines a prescription.
  • An evaluation of depth perception.
  • Eye movement testing.
  • Muscle Balance testing.
  • External ocular health examination, including an evaluation for dry eyes.
  • Internal ocular health examination of the retina.

Check yearly, see clearly.

CONTACT LENS FITTING

A contact lens (also known simply as a "contact") is a corrective, cosmetic, or therapeutic lens placed on the cornea of the eye. Contact lenses usually serve the same corrective purpose as conventional glasses, but are lightweight and virtually invisible—many commercial lenses are tinted a light blue to make them more visible when immersed in cleaning and storage solutions.

Our doctors are specialist in fitting contact lenses. For a patient to be able to wear contact lenses the doctor must measure the curvature of their cornea. Every patient, including their eyes, is different. With so many different types of contacts it is important that the doctor fits a patient with the correct contact, and cordially follows up with the patient to assure the correct lenses. The follow up appointment is included in the initial cost of the exam, and afterwards the doctor can finalize the contact lens prescription.

RETINAL PHOTOGRAPHY

We are pleased to announce that we offer the latest in ophthalmic imaging technology.

Our Canon digital camera, supplied with sophisticated imaging software, allows us to take an instant photograph of the back of the eye, and in most cases, without the need to dilate the eyes. A baseline retinal photograph is an essential tool to evaluate the health of a patient’s eyes. Subtle changes in the features of your retina could be indicative of serious eye conditions. These changes are best documented through the precision of digital retinal imaging.

Digital imaging is a detailed inspection of the central area of the retina which allows for a fast and more reliable diagnosis than has previously been possible. The images of the back of the eye are stored on a computer and can be recalled and reviewed, so that any changes can be monitored from one visit to the next. The digitized images enable patients to see exactly what doctors are evaluating during the examination. Patient and doctor can then more effectively discuss the results. If it is necessary for you to be referred to a specialist, the pictures can be sent along with you as a referral to assist with the initial assessment.

At Bloomingdale Optical we care about each and every patient and recommend this procedure to be done yearly.
